The “Beat of the County Seat”, was a motto created by students to help describe the Houlton High School “Shiretowners” Band. With approximately 25% of the school in band, this 100 plus member ensemble is the primary 9-12 instrumental performing ensemble for all students. Many hours are dedicated to preparing for home concerts, assemblies, and community events. The band has been recognized as a major player in providing school spirit at sporting events. The band has traveled to music festivals in Massachusetts and New York, many times successfully competing against ensembles that come from much larger schools.
All students that are involved in the band are eligible to participate in the various ensembles that branch out of the band program including small ensembles, jazz groups and percussion ensemble. Parents and students are encouraged to review the course syllabus for further information.
