There are many exciting things planned for the Houlton High School Concert Choir and the soon-to-be-formed Camerata in the coming year. Our curricula for the choral music department will be changing, and with that will come some adjustment time.  I’m eager to introduce more structured sight singing and music theory components into rehearsals, as well as a new structure for small-group instruction and a refined assessment model that promotes growth and excellence as an individualized singer with personal needs.  I’m eager to announce the aforementioned Camerata will be formed; this small ensemble of highly-motivated and highly-eager singers will rehearse during portions of their concert choir block (as well as limited rehearsals outside school) to prepare a dynamic and challenging program that will aim to showcase the unique vocal talents of our students.

As always, we strive for musical excellence.  We achieve that by working together in rehearsals, coming to rehearsals prepared, devoting time OUTSIDE rehearsals to practice and polish, submitting assignments when they are due, and keeping an open mind ready to try new things (and perhaps look a little silly doing it)! 

Please look at the district calendar and mark relevant dates in your student planner/family calendar NOW as they will not change: concerts, auditions, performances, and any event you may want to work to earn trip credits (we will make a presentation on our next trip venture, the credit-earning process, eligibility, etc. when the new school year begins.)
